Enterprise Reporting and News Stories

Venture Reporting and News Stories To a decent correspondent, numerous accounts are clearly critical to cover †a house fire, a crime, a political race, another state spending plan. Be that as it may, shouldn't something be said about those moderate news days when breaking news is meager and there aren’t any intriguing public statements worth looking at? Those are the days when great columnists are taking a shot at what they call â€Å"enterprise stories.† They’re the sort of stories that numerous correspondents locate the most remunerating to do. What Is Enterprise Reporting? Endeavor revealing includes stories not founded on public statements or news meetings. Rather, venture detailing is about the narratives a correspondent uncovers on their own, what numerous individuals call â€Å"scoops.† Enterprise announcing goes past just covering occasions. It investigates the powers molding those occasions. For example, we’ve every single heard anecdote about reviews of broken and conceivably perilous items identified with kids like dens, toys and vehicle seats. In any case, when a group of columnists at the Chicago Tribune investigated such reviews they found an example of deficient legislative guideline of such things. Similarly, New York Times columnist Clifford J. Toll did a progression of analytical stories that revealed far reaching maltreatment of intellectually sick grown-ups in state-managed homes. Both the Tribune and Times ventures won Pulitzer prizes. Discovering Ideas for Enterprise Stories So how might you build up your own venture stories? Most columnists will disclose to you that revealing such stories includes two key journalistic aptitudes: perception and examination. Perception Perception, clearly, includes seeing your general surroundings. Be that as it may, while we as a whole watch things, journalists make perception one stride further by utilizing their perceptions to produce story thoughts. At the end of the day, a journalist who sees something fascinating constantly asks himself, â€Å"could this be a story?† Let’s state you stop at a service station to top off your tank. You see the cost of a gallon of gas has risen once more. The majority of us would protest about it, however a correspondent may ask, â€Å"Why is the cost rising?† Here’s a considerably increasingly unremarkable model: You’re in the market and notice that the ambient melodies has changed. The store used to play the sort of sluggish symphonic stuff that presumably nobody under 70 would appreciate. Presently the store is playing pop tunes from the 1980s and 1990s. Once more, the majority of us would take little notification of this, yet a decent correspondent would ask, â€Å"Why did they change the music?† Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes, and Trends Notice that the two models include changes †in the cost of gas, out of sight music played. Changes are something columnists consistently search for. A change, all things considered, is something new, and new improvements are what journalists expound on. Endeavor journalists likewise search for changes that happen after some time - patterns, as it were. Finding a pattern is frequently an extraordinary method to begin an undertaking story. Why Ask Why? You’ll notice that the two models include the correspondent asking â€Å"why† something was going on. â€Å"Why† is likely the most significant word in any reporter’s jargon. A journalist who inquires as to why something is going on is starting the following stage of big business revealing: examination. Examination Examination is extremely only an extravagant word for detailing. It includes doing the meetings and uncovering the data to build up an undertaking story. An undertaking reporter’s first errand is to do some underlying answering to check whether there truly is an intriguing story to be expounded on (not every fascinating perception end up being fascinating reports.) The subsequent stage is to accumulate the material expected to create a strong story. So the journalist examining the ascent in gas costs may find that a storm in the Gulf of Mexico has eased back oil creation, causing the value spike. Also, the correspondent testing the changing ambient melodies may find that it’s about the way that the enormous staple customers nowadays †guardians with developing children †grew up during the 1980s and 1990s and need to hear music that was well known in their childhood. Model: A Story About Underage Drinking Lets take one more model, this one including a pattern. Lets state youre the police journalist in your old neighborhood. Consistently youre in police central station, checking the capture log. Over a time of a while, you notice a spike in captures for underage drinking among understudies from the neighborhood secondary school. You meet the cops to check whether amplified authorization is liable for the expansion. They state no. So you meet the head of the secondary school just as educators and advocates. You likewise converse with understudies and guardians and find that, for an assortment of reasons, underage drinking is expanding. So you compose an anecdote about the issues of underage drinking and how its on the ascent in your old neighborhood. What youve delivered is a venture story, one not founded on a public statement or a news meeting, yet on your own perception and examination. Undertaking detailing can incorporate everything from highlight stories (the one about changing mood melodies would most likely fit that class) to progressively genuine analytical pieces, similar to the ones refered to above by the Tribune and Times.

SAT 5 Tricks for the Writing Test

The Writing section of the SAT has undergone one of the most obvious changes of the whole exam. All of the questions are now within the context of a passage, which makes the test much more like the real-world task of editing a paper or article. This might make this section seem daunting, but we have some tricks that’ll help you face it with confidence. Tip #1: Know your enemy. In this article, we won’t get into each type of writing error that the SAT includes, but you should know that there are two general types of questions on the Writing section: narrow-focus questions and broad-focus questions. Narrow-focus questions ask about diction (word choice), sentence construction of one particular sentence, and mechanical details such as punctuation. Broad-focus questions ask you to judge and make changes to the organization within paragraphs and the passage itself; they include questions about tone, topic sentences, and conclusions. Trick #2: Start with the details. It’s a good idea to answer the narrow-focus questions first. They require very little reading and can be answered quickly, letting you rack up those precious points. The idea is to lock down the easier/faster points first. If you run out of time, you can guess on the questions you didn’t get to, but you don’t want to miss out on some you could have answered easily because you got caught up on a hard question. Plus, getting these right can give you a nice confidence boost as you approach the more complex questions. Tip #3: Tackle the broad-focus SAT questions strategically. Read the question, then re-read the section of the passage that it refers to. Decide what you think needs to be done before you look at the answer choices. Then look for an answer choice that matches your idea. If there isn’t one, test out each answer choice in context. Finally, always read your choice back as part of the paragraph or passage to make sure it flows logically. Following this sort of strategy will take some of the stress out of these questions and help you avoid getting stuck on them. Trick #4: Don’t be afraid to pick NO CHANGE. Many questions on the Writing section provide NO CHANGE as a possible answer. Many students hate picking this answer, because they always feel like it can’t possibly be fine and they are missing something. It is true that most questions will include an error of some kind, but there will always be a couple of correct ones, too. A good rule is that if you get 5 or more NO CHANGE answers in a single passage, take a second look at them, since it is rare to have that many concentrated in one selection. The best way to build confidence on these questions is to study the types of errors the SAT will make. If you’re sure that the selection makes none of these, NO CHANGE might just be the right choice. Tip #5: Pay attention to tone on SAT Writing. Understanding the tone of a passage can help you on a variety of question types. Broad-focus questions will often ask you to choose an appropriate sentence to be added to the passage. Several of the sentences may be on the correct topic, but only one will include the right topic and the right tone. Tone can also be useful on narrow-focus questions such as those that ask you to pick the correct word in context. The options often have similar meanings but different connotations. Use your knowledge of the passage’s tone to select the best word for the job. Editing long passages may seem daunting, but arming yourself with knowledge and strategy can help you go into the Writing section of the New SAT ready to do battle and win!

Were The Two Mutually Strange Civilizations - 2287 Words

â€Å"They were the two spearheads of the two mutually strange civilizations, confronting each other for the first time after centuries of separate history.† When the Spaniard’s first set foot into the Aztec Empire in 1519, Cortà ©s and Moctezuma’s confrontation revealed the inherent differences that existed between the two cultures. These two leaders examined each other and came to see that behind the two cultures lied centuries of separate history, and that on this day two alien planets had finally discovered each other. The Spaniard’s main advantages over the the Aztecs have been widely documented by western scholars as relating primarily to their possession of three thing: guns, germs and steel. Most historical narratives describe technologically advanced Spanish conquerors that brought with them from the â€Å"Old World† horses, steel and gunpowder, giving them an important upper hand against the Aztec warriors who bore stone-edge weapons. In addition, most scholars agree that tne of the most destructive factors were the germs that the Aztecs had never been exposed to. However, when the Spaniards came to conquer the Aztec Empire, one of the lesser known advantages that they had was the ability to understand this unfamiliar world. Unlike the Aztec king, Moctezuma, who had never seen Europeans, sailing ships, horses, steel blades, or body armor before, the Spanish conquistador, Cortà ©s, recognized the similarities between the Aztec Empire and his own world based on his experience withShow MoreRelatedThe Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Louis Stevenson Essay1468 Words   |  6 PagesThe Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Louis Stevenson In the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Robert Louis Stevenson makes the reader question the extent to which Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are in fact a single character. Developmental Psychology Children And Adults Change Over...

According to (simplypsychology.org), developmental psychology is â€Å"a scientific approach which aims to explain how children and adults change over time†. This theory mainly focuses on an individual’s childhood with a direct concentration on the earliest stages of when the child is developing into an adult as this is seen to be the most valued stages of development. However it is now understood to be a lifelong process. There are a number of prominent theories from different psychologists that support much of the existing thinking in developmental psychology. Jean Piaget, who is thoroughly known among developmental psychologists, was interested in understanding the form of adaptation relating to the environment. He suggested that children†¦show more content†¦They found that Piaget’s experiment design caused issues for the children to give correct answers. They criticised Piaget’s underestimation of language acquisition and ability of memory skills in young children. Piaget’s theory of cognitive development outlined how a child’s ability to think develops through a number of different stages as they mature. Piaget believed that these stages were maturational which means development is genetic and unaffected by environmental factors. However, Samuel and Bryant advocate a cognitive approach to child development. Samuel and Bryant’s experiment showed that children under five were capable of more sophisticated thought than Piaget claimed. Samuel and Bryant argue that Piaget s theory of cognitive development places too much emphasis on maturational factors. Using a cognitive approach they believe that children learn new strategies and skills. Samuel and Bryant also criticise Piaget for emphasising how children learn as individuals. Samuel and Bryant argue that children do not learn in isolation and that they learn far more readily and efficiently when they are working together than when they are alone. Despite this the Samuel and Bryant experiment did demonstrate two findings which support Piaget. Firstly, they found that older children did do considerably better than younger children on the conservation tasks. 8 year olds did better than 7 year olds, who did better than 6 year olds, and so on, perhaps supporting

Research Paper on Video Game Violence - 1483 Words

Kendal Hill Mrs. Van Fleet Block 3 10 December 2011 Video games and Violent Behavior True or False: Violent videogames cause children to become more aggressive. Sorry, that was a trick question. Despite much bandying of statistics and loud talking by critics on both sides of the argument, the real answer is that there is no real answer—at least not one that’s been proved scientifically (Zipp). Video games are an appealing target for a public figure in search of a crusade. Movies and music have energetic advocates, but it’s hard to find anyone who will defend games for their artistic value, or even on the grounds of freedom of expression. Usually the strongest argument made for games is that they are harmless fun (Koffler).†¦show more content†¦That may be because videogames are such an important part of socializing for that age, Kutner and Olson say, that these boys are, by definition, â€Å"abnormal† (Zipp). However, Kutner and Olson are careful to point out that their study does not prove causali ty: It may be that more aggressive children are drawn to more violent videogames and not that the games themselves are to blame. Researchers just don’t know yet (Zipp). Kutner and Olson also say that playing the games with your child is an excellent idea, for many reasons. For one, 12-year-olds love being able to trounce their parents at something. For another, parent and child will be able to have meaningful conversation while playing whether about videogames or not. (Children at that age find it much easier to talk to parents if they aren’t facing them.) And if a parent finds something that concerns them in a game, a child may listen more thoughtfully than if the parent just issues a blanket refusal to allow future playing, Olson says. † But for those parents who simply won’t let their children have video games at home, Olson says â€Å"total denial doesn’t work,† there’s a good chance the child will just find somewhere else to play them.† Here again Kutner points out there is no proof of causality (Zipp). Paintball Essay Summary Example For Students

Paintball Essay Summary Paintball! A fast-paced, adrenaline pumping, game paintball is a world renowned sport and is growing popularity faster than several other top sports. Paintball is non-contact, making it very safe when played right. According to the Sports Data Inc. surveys, paintball has the lowest injury rate of ANY sport, at only . 31 injuries per 1000 participants. Paintball is viewed several different ways by people that have not experienced it for themselves. A lot of people think paintball is only for gun crazy maniacs. Well that is an incorrect statement, mainly because paintball guns are not guns at all. The definition of gun is, Any weapon that discharges shot, shells, or other bullet by the explosion of gun powder or some other explosive from a strait tube. Paintball markers operate in a VERY different way. Paintballs are propelled out of the barrel by air, not any type of explosive, and paintball markers are NOT weapons. No one has ever got killed by a paintball marker from getting shot. Even without a mask on. Although eye injuries have been reported, this is due to the fact that an unsafe game was played. Most likely someone decided that they were superman and took off their goggles in the middle of a game and no ref was there to stop him. All goggles worn during paintball should and are approved by the government and you are not supposed to shoot above a speed of 300 feet per second. Yes, paintball leaves welts, but most people can stand them. The pain of a paintball welt is surely not any worse than getting tackled by a 200 lbs football player. If safety is what people are worrying about, why do we have football, wrestling, or basketball? They are all in the top ten for highest injury rates. Paintball is also growing in popularity, games for paintball are getting released and selling way better than the majority of other games. The most popular of any paintball game is called Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball and is exactly the type of paintball that we would like to play at the school, speedball. Speedball is a game of paintball played on a paintball field that is exactly symmetrical to through the middle, a speedball field is usually about 100 feet long and 40 feet wide and the bunkers are usually made of a durable and flexible plastic that holds air, most commonly called air bunkers. The rules for paintball should be heavily enforced and heavy consequences should result if the rules are not followed. Another question several people ask is, Well, not everyone has enough money to paintball and my answer is, Youre right, unless you stop watching TV and do something good for someone else, then you arent going to be able to play. The paintball program I think should be ran like this; Money will be collected from members for field trips and such. Money will be requested IF NEEDED each year from the student government. The group of participants can also organize fundraising activities. Paintball is not a play everyday sport either. It would probably be once a week or once every other week. The average income for a FREQUENT paintball player is $48,200. So I am sure this would be achievable by us if we worked hard enough at it. All in all, paintball is a perfect school sport with its, fun, safe and popular attributes. It would be a great contribution to the school and would most likely result in higher grades, due to the fact that people that participate in a sport, do better in school.

Leading the Engaged Enterprise-Free-Samples-Myassignementhelp.com

Questions: 1.What is Ambidexterity Employment Engagement. 2.The Distributed Leadership Model Identify Sensemaking, Relating, Visioning Inventing. 3.Williams Typology of Adaptive challenges Identify which adaptive challenge in this Case why? Answers: 1.Ambidexterity and Employment engagement Organizational ambidexterity refers to the ability of an organization to be efficient in todays business as well as adapting and coping up with the future changing demands. Moreover, ambidextrous organizations are highly capable of exploiting the existing competencies, while simultaneously exploiting new business opportunities for the business. While considering the case of Volkswagen, it can be seen that the organization is highly capable of using its superior engineers and technologists for making luxurious and comfortable cars. Moreover, the organization is capable enough to beat the top automakers of the world like General Motors and Toyota. Furthermore, the organization is also intended to manufacture environment friendly cars powered by diesel engine. In this way, the organization would the future environmental protection needs of the world. Therefore, Volkswagen can be considered as an ambidextrous organization in car making industry. Employee engagement is mostly based on the trust, integrity and two way commitments between employers and the employees, which ensures that the employees are treated in a right manner within their workplace. While considering the case of Volkswagen, it can be said that there is lack of employee engagement in their workplace. Moreover, the employees are not provided with enough empowerment for doing their jobs. Therefore, such employees were not highly engaged in their workplace. 2.Distributed Leadership Model Distributed leadership model gives more emphasis on engagement of the employees with their task rather than any specific characteristics of the leaders. Such leadership assists in spreading the decision making abilities throughout the team. The four capabilities of distributed leadership like sense-making, relating, visioning and inventing can be perfectly applied on the case of Volkswagen leadership. In sense-making capability, the distributed leaders make sense of the world and create change maps for adapting the changing business environment of the world. Such leaders mostly work in collaboration with the employees for maintaining flexibility in the work. However, Ferdinand Pich, the chairman of Volkswagen, was highly authoritative in his leadership style. The employees were to follow strict orders of the leaders for doing their jobs rather than working in collaborative manner. In this way, the employees were discouraged to find their creative opportunities in their organization. In relating capability, the distributed leaders maintain open communication with the employees in the workplace. They reinforce a sense of urgency among the employees so that they become engaged with their job roles. However, Pich of Volkswagen was not at all open to his communication with the employees. Moreover, in the meetings also, the leader used to remain silent without interacting with the employees. Therefore, such leadership and working culture used to underestimate the opinion of the employees. It mostly used to disengage the employees with their job roles. Furthermore, in visioning capability, the distributed leaders are highly capable of creating a compelling vision of future. It is capability of the leaders to create a big picture of the organization, which could be achieved in future. In case of Volkswagen, Pich was capable of creating compelling vision, but lack of communication used to prevent him in communicating that vision with the employees. In such way, the emplo yees were unclear about the exact organizational goals and objectives. It used to prevent them from aligning their effort with organizational goals and objectives. On the other hand, in inventing, an effective distributive leader invents the future of his organization. Such leaders allow new development structures and give the employees permission towards breaking the convention. In case of Volkswagen, Pich was an effective leader for inventing the future and break the convention for leading organizational ambidexterity. However, in this organization, employee failure was not allowed. Hence, the employees were not encouraged to learn and try new things from their failure. It used to prevent their inventing power at their workplace. 3.Williams Typology of Adaptive Challenges As per Williams Typology of adaptive challenges, there are six types of adaptive challenges, which an organization can face in its business process. These six types of adaptive challenges are like crisis, development, creative, transition, maintenance and activist. While considering the case of Volkswagen, it can be said that the organization is facing Creative adaptive challenge in this case. In Creative adaptive challenge, developing existing capacities often not suffice the issues. Therefore, organizations need to explore new terrain and build capacities from the scratch. The organization used BlueTec technology for reducing such gases from the car engine. However, in USA, the emission rate of nitrogen oxides was still high as per their emission standard. In such situation, the organization started to usedefeat software, which was capable of detecting the testing mechanism and it used to reduce the production of nitrogen oxides automatically during tasting time. Such cheating mech anism had been revealed quickly to the public, which caused an organizational scandal. Such issue cannot be sufficed with existing capacities and the organization needs to build their capacities from their scratch for manufacturing cars with new technology for reducing carbon emission. Furthermore, the organization also faced the Transition adaptive challenge, as the existing resources need to be moved to a new phase operationally for reducing the carbon emission in the cars. Apart from that, Volkswagen also faced activist challenge, as the management board did not take seriously this issues and it ultimately hampered the corporate reputation.

The Slave Trade free essay sample

This is a way of thought that we are taught as soon as we are deemed old enough to understand it. Slavery is an idea that is almost as old as the human race and, considering that, we have only moved away from it recently. It took the cruelty and mistreatment of more than 10 million Africans to finally make people realize that what they were doing was terrible, and that human beings should be treated with a certain level of respect and kindness. Right when Slavery was becoming a controversial practice there were two men who wrote regarding the matter: Omaha GuardBasque, who experienced slavery first-hand, and Robert Walsh, who dealt with slavery from the side Of opposition. Both Of their accounts paint a terrible picture of the slave trade, the focus of both being on the inhumane treatment of the enslaved. Basque was captured and experienced slavery first hand, so his account shows how deplorable the slave trade was. We will write a custom essay sample on The Slave Trade or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Basque tells of his journey from his home to the coast of Africa which, though eventful and unpleasant, is nothing compared to the sea voyage. It was during the voyage that the real horror of the slave trade was brought to life, both physically and mentally: Pity the poor African, who has been trepanned and sold away from friends and home, and consigned to the hold of a slave ship, to await even more horrors and miseries in a distant land.. . Babushkas words really tell of the sorrow that slaves felt, being ripped away from their home and destined to a strange land full of people who will treat them as objects to be bartered for, traded, and eventually discarded. The conditions aboard such slave ships were abysmal. The slaves were treated worse than livestock: being crammed into incredibly tight spaces, given very little water, and were only allowed to lean themselves twice over the course of the entire journey. The hold was so low that we could not stand up the loathsomeness and filth of that horrible place will never be effaced from my memory we suffered very much for want of water As the slaves made their way to the Americas they are denied food, water, and rest, turning the trip into what could be described as a living hell.Babushkas biography shows that the mistreatment of the slaves is what he believed to be the worst part of the slave trade. Robert Walsh was stationed on a ship that was hunting for slave ships, and hen they capture one he describes the conditions they found to be awful. Once onboard, Walsh notices immediately that the slaves are being treated poorly and, as with Basque, of an equal or worse quality than livestock: As they belonged to, and were shipped on account of different individuals, they were all branded, like sheep, with the owners marks The slaves that Walsh finds are branded, another indicator that they are only property, and not considered to be anything more. If anything, the conditions in the ship that Walsh boarded appear to be worse than that of the ship Basque was rapped in: some were greatly emaciated, and some, particularly children, seemed dying packed up and wedged together in low cells, three feet high shut out from light or air Even at its best, the slave mortality rate during their journey was only a little under 1 0%, this being due to mistreatment and the terrible conditions in which they were forces to reside. It is obvious that both Basque and Walsh noticed and were appalled by the neglect of basic human rights for the slaves. In both accounts, the focus points towards the terrible treatment of the Africans. Basque and Walsh can both agree that the slave trades worst specs is how the slaves are mistreated, often to death. With clear looks into slavery such is these circulating during that point in time, its no surprise that the slave trade was soon outlawed.

How to Find Scholarship Essay Samples

How to Find Scholarship Essay SamplesThe page numbering essay samples is an excellent place to start your search for essay writing samples. There are many, many different kinds of essay writing samples that you can find online. But before you can choose from all the different types, you need to first find a good idea of what kind of essay you will be writing. The point of an essay is to convince the reader of something that is true and important. The question here is how? Well, for the short essay you might do the job of your parents' best friend, but the long-form essay is a whole different animal. The reason that long essays are more difficult is that the more difficult the problem the harder it is to solve. In this case, the readers are looking for a solution to a puzzle or a problem, and if they are not getting it in the first paragraph, they will look elsewhere. For the long essay, the author must find a way to create the entire essay from one main idea or concept. This means that all of the other details and parts have to fit together in the right order. It also means that you need to put into your piece a lot of information that is pertinent to the big picture. Often the 'what' comes before the 'how.'The theme of your essay should not be too complex, but there should be enough details to bring in a certain level of interest, but the writer must not push the information too far, so that it becomes too much to the point of being unclear. If you make the reader wait for a little while and then dump all of the information in one huge paragraph, it will be too confusing. On the other hand, if you allow them enough time to digest the essay, the reader will begin to see things and become interested.Once you have your essay planned out, you need to make sure that the title is engaging, catchy, and is definitely the first thing they see when they open the resource box. After that, you need to carefully craft the essay to make sure that it tells its readers what the y need to know, and nothing more. How to Treat Postpositive Adjectives

How to Treat Postpositive Adjectives How to Treat Postpositive Adjectives How to Treat Postpositive Adjectives By Mark Nichol Nearly a thousand years ago, the Norman Conquest had a profound effect not only on the English nation but also on the English language. One of the manifestations of this event is the survival of the postpositive adjective. In many languages, including French, a modifying word follows the word it modifies, such as in the phrase ressource naturelle (â€Å"natural resources†). Because of Norman French’s influence on law, politics, and other matters sovereign, we still sometimes use this form in the mongrel melange that is the English language. Thus â€Å"attorney general† (as well as â€Å"secretary general† and â€Å"postmaster general†), which refers not to a military rank but to the office holder’s generic scope of responsibility. Thus court-martial, which literally pertains to a court of a martial, or warlike, nature but practically applies to a military court in wartime or peacetime. Thus â€Å"heir apparent† and knight-errant, artifacts of feudal system. (Note that compound form is inconsistent: Open compounds prevail, but some hyphenated forms persist. When in doubt, look the term up. If certain, look the term up anyway.) This form reaches even into the quotidian vocabulary of business, with â€Å"accounts payable† and â€Å"accounts receivable,† as well as â€Å"notary public,† and in terms that apply to government but have entered general use, such as â€Å"body politic.† There’s even a pair of ordinary words that sometimes take postpositive adjectives in some contexts; I used one earlier in this post, in the phrase â€Å"matters sovereign.† Another is things, as in â€Å"things unsaid.† And how are such terms pluralized? Generally as shown in the first two examples in the paragraph above the noun, not the adjective, logically takes the plural form: for example, â€Å"attorneys general† (but attorney-generals in British English), courts-martial, and â€Å"notaries public.† The same is true of mother-in-law and like terms, the plural form of which is rendered mothers-in-law, and similar constructions such as â€Å"editor in chief† (sometimes hyphenated, though that style is outmoded), right-of-way, and sergeant-at-arms (pluralized as â€Å"editors in chief,† rights-of-way, and sergeants-at-arms, respectively). Bilingual education benefits everyone Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Bilingual education benefits everyone - Essay Example The political shifts of the 20th century greatly curtailed bilingual efforts and recent political views against it have raised the issue once again. Advocates of an English only system have pointed to the need for national identity, but this approach has led to the sink or swim attitude of educating our students and the effect on the student and society can be detrimental and the cost is certainly high. Students need to progress into our language as well as our society. With a bilingual program, students are taught the desired English, yet have the chance to explore other subjects in their native tongue. This keeps the student on pace and their additional knowledge aids in the learning of English. If a student gets left behind in the sciences, math, or current events due to a lack of English skills, that student will not develop the necessary skills and requirements at an important point in their education. Students who are not struggling with the language barrier are more interested and involved with the material and subsequently perform better. Bilingual education is not a replacement for English, it is a valuable addition to the curriculum. Bilingual education not only provides the only workable approach to teaching non-English speaking students, it also has advantages.

Reflective Log in Social Work Practice (FOUR Reflective Logs 750 Words Essay

Reflective Log in Social Work Practice (FOUR Reflective Logs 750 Words Each) - Essay Example Through my own prerogative, I was able to develop, implement and introduce troubleshooting strategies that made my friend re-consider taking an abortion. These strategies can also be used in other case scenarios. I realised the value and need to equip myself with technical information and methodologies in handling more complex tasks like teenage pregnancy. Young people like me should be aware of such social work concepts to be able to analyse these social problems with young people who are experiencing such concern. I should have approached her boyfriend in a more informal way rather than in an accusing manner, especially in the idea of having an abortion. Being the father of the unborn child, he should be man enough to face his responsibilities. He should have been more supportive in this critical moment of her life. I would call my friend’s parents, who are working abroad, and inform them of their daughter’s current situation. It is possible that my friend is somehow not getting the attention that she needed from her parents so instead relied on the presence of her boyfriend and friends. Although she has friends and guardians to support her, my friend would still need the support of her parents that would assure her that despite what happened they still love and would take care of her and her unborn child. There is a need to have a community-based institution or â€Å"teenage clinic† that could handle the growing need number of local teenage pregnancy. A school nurse, health visitor or youth worker might be able to help give ideas for setting up the clinic. Young people like me should be encouraged and involved in this kind of social work endeavour. There is a need to increase the youth’s awareness on teenage pregnancy. Schools, healthcare institutions and the local government should educate adolescents the effects of teenage pregnancy, means to which it can be avoided and how this issue can be disseminated. Natural environment Essay Example for Free

Natural environment Essay When walking down the meat isle in the grocery store, do people stop to think where the meat came from? A lot of the labels on food will say that it is farm fresh, but does it really come from all natural environments or not? It is a good question to consider, because people have a right to know where their food is coming from and how it is processed. Throughout the Food Inc movie, it shows the animals growing environments and also explains how the animals are given steroids that increase the speed of their growth. This is dangerous for people because if we are eating this meat, it can be harmful and also unhealthy for us to consume. The companies responsible for the processing of the food, refuse to talk about how the process works, and buyers are starting to feel like the companies are hiding something and it is important that people find out; they have a right to know. â€Å"Some people feel like since they are getting a good deal on their food that they don’t care about where it comes from because it is cheap and always available. † (Food Inc. ) Money is a big issue for many people, and even the people with a lot of money don’t mind getting a good deal at the grocery store. The other side of this would be that some people feel that they want to spend their money on something that is not only cheap, but safe and healthy. People deserve to know where the food they consume is coming from. Until companies are willing to talk to the people and explain what is going on and how they do their job, it is going to be an argument. Many effects are added to the film to make it seem more dramatic and real. It uses animated effect, zooming, and also rotating effect where it goes all the way around the area to show the setting. Animated effects were used to show different animals that the processing is done to, and also the list of stores that sells products from certain companies such as TYSON. Zooming effect is used to get an up-close look of what is going on to the animals, what is in their food, and also to show down inside of the machines that the chickens go through. The rotating effects show the setting in one part of the film where one of the chicken owners let the camera people come in and see the environment that the chickens are growing and living in. It shows proof of how harsh the living environment and growing process of the chickens are. Emotion is also a part of this film. It will either cause a person to feel a negative, positive, or mixed feeling on the subject. This refers to the Ethos of the film. Some people may feel happy because the way the chickens are given growth hormones means people have more food sources and it comes in faster and cheaper. Other people may be upset because it harms the animals and throws off the natural growth process. Some other people may think it doesn’t really matter as long as people have food. Each person has their own opinion, but that is why it is important that the actual facts and processes are detailed to the people, so that people can understand and decide for themselves how they feel about it. In conclusion, the film is a trustworthy source because it has actual video of proof to back its statements up. The film talks about the chickens living in harsh and dirty environments, the way they are given growth hormones to speed up the growth process and increase the size of the breasts, and also how the cows are fed a corn- based food. All of the statements that are made about the processes of food sources, have video footage to show and explain what is being said to the viewer(s). It is also a published movie that is considered a documentary and is shown is schools, so it must be a reliable source to be used in our educational system and to have video of people who participate in the food processing. The Effects Of Day Care Paper

Day care clearly has a significant impact on the health of young children. How many hours children spend in day care before they go to kindergarten plays a major role in how they develop later. According to thoughtful social scientists, â€Å"in teachers' reports of kindergà ¤rtners social behavior, the effect of hours spent in day care is greater than the effect of the quality of parenting, and comparable to the impact of poverty' (Jennet Jacob Erickson ). From personal observation, the negative effect of too much time spent away from the mothers is regrettably apparent, and even obvious.Unfortunately, oftentimes the mothers themselves do not recognize the negative effects of separation between mother and child. A low level of maternal sensitivity, paired with more time spent in day care, and/or a lower quality of day care, will cause undesirable results. Children will tend to feel more insecure and less attached to their mothers. Children need a significant amount of one-on- one time with their mothers in order to create a stable foundation for growth. If little children are deprived of that essential time, it is sure to show later in some way.Throughout the US and around the world, more and more mothers are starting careers. Therefore, more children are going to day care. In 201 0, one in four children with a working mother went to day care. These rates are increasing. Even though most people in the modern world would agree that it is admirable that so many women are becoming independent, it is unavoidable that there are consequences for the family. For children, more time in day care during early childhood results in a lowered social ability to be competent and cooperative with others, more problem behaviors, negative ND even depressed moods, as well as aggression and conflict. It is troubling to think that many young children are suffering unnecessarily. Regrettably, the role of stay-at-home-mom is becoming less and less desired as the world takes on a mo re prominent feminist view. Although it is understandable that some mothers are working to put food on the table, there are plenty who are simply trying to climb the corporate ladder. The neglected children Of these mothers are unfortunately often left wondering if they are as important to the mothers as the job. Mothers need to exhibit sensitivity throughout childhood. Many can agree it is the best way to ensure a healthy social-emotional development. It is proven that â€Å"children whose mothers exhibit low levels of sensitivity and who are in child care more than ten hours a week or in lower quality childcare are more likely to experience attachment insecurity' (Jennet Jacob Erickson). Attachment insecurity can lead to negative behavior outcomes. It is likely that neglect from mothers can even slow development. Research shows that â€Å"children who experienced more hours of child care had significantly fewer social skills ND poorer work habits in the third grade† Genet J acob Erickson).Preteens with extensive child care backgrounds continued to show similar results. What many mothers fail to realize is that the stability and quality of the where they are sending their children does not make up for the lost positive mother- child interactions. Whether an individual chooses motherhood or not, she must understand the importance of adapting to the role. To take on the responsibility of becoming a mother, she must understand that this is not a role that can be done carelessly in any way.The absence of quality mother- child time can result in bad behavior later, particularly in adolescent-teenage years. Children tend to have better social-emotional development when they have a healthy attachment to their mothers. It is proven that â€Å"at age 15, children who had experienced more non-relative (non-family) child care reported more risk-taking behaviors and impulsively, including using alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs; behaving in ways that threatened saf ety; and not being able to control impulses appropriately' (Jennet Jacob Erickson).Clearly, children who do not have enough sufficient one-on-one time with their mothers are the ones who grow up to be â€Å"misguided teens. † Of course, this is not the only factor and not the only answer to every situation. But, statistics imply that many cases could be cured simply with some tender love and care. With an answer as straightforward as this, it is discouraging that many insensitive and uninvolved mothers are still left wondering later why their child has developed behavioral issues. Many could argue the fact that the ever-growing day care business across the country is a growing issue.
